FAQs

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION

As part of the homeopathic case taking process, a homeopath may collect details of the patient's sufferings, including the chief complaint, present symptomatology, personal history, and family history, along with abnormal findings on the physical examination, as well as details regarding previous treatments and the results obtained.

WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE OF THE EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICACY OF HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES

The effectiveness and efficacy of homeopathic medicines are supported by 200 years of clinical observation. An increasing number of scientific studies on homeopathy are being conducted and, in recent years, more than 150 of these studies have been published in medical journals. Clinical research is providing evidence of the efficacy of homeopathic medicines, and basic laboratory research is confirming the biological activity of highly diluted substances and helping the scientific community better understand their mechanism of action.

ARE HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES REGULATED

Homeopathic products come in many forms such as pellets, oral droplets, syrups, creams, and ointments. These products are made up of substances that come from plants, minerals, or animals. These products are generally low-risk. Health Canada regulates homeopathic products as a type of natural health product. Health Canada reviews homeopathic products to make sure that they are safe and that the health claims (what the product claims to do) are supported by textbooks and other references used in the practice of homeopathy (e.g., pharmacopeia, Materia medica).

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the second largest medical system for primary health care in the world. It is prevalent and widely accepted in many parts of the world including Europe, where over 100 million people use it on a regular basis. In America, during the early 1900s, the most prestigious medical schools in this country were homeopathic.
